Swan Song By Anton Chekov

Directed by Jeff James

As part of the Devils Festival

18 June - 2 July

Svetlovidov wakes up in the theatre in the middle of the night. It is his benefit night: a gala performance to mark the end of his acting life. He got drunk and everyone else went home, leaving Svetlovidov to regret the booze and think on death. He is interrupted by Nikita, the old prompter who sleeps in the dressing room every night. Svetlovidov reveals to Nikita his mistakes and his fears. Has Svetlovidov wasted his life on the stage? Should he have married instead? Nikita attempts to convince him that he is a great actor: together they play the great moments from Svetlovidov's career, when he played Lear, Hamlet and Othello.
